Does police success in seizing heroin make a significant difference to the amount of drugs on the streets of Britain? A feature in Informa’s Journal of Substance Use examines the effectiveness of policing and addresses the difficulties in interpreting data on the subject.

New localised research on the prevalence of problem drug use, the estimated number of heroin users, and on the quantity of heroin consumed in Scotland has enabled the report authors (N. McKeganey, J. Casey, J. McGallagly and G. Hay from the Centre for Drug Misuse Research, University of Glasgow) to estimate the proportion of ‘seized’ to ‘consumed’ heroin.

The editors of Disability & Rehabilitation and its sister publication, Disability & Rehabilitation: Assistive Technology have announced an annual award which will be given for the best review paper published in either of the two journals. Commencing in 2009, the Informa Best Review Paper Award will recognise valuable, high-impact research in the fields of disability, rehabilitation and assistive technology.

“The Informa Best Review Paper Award is open to all authors and every review paper published within these two journals during 2009 will be considered,” says Sally Howells, Managing Editor of the two publications at Informa Healthcare.
